childrens bedroom furniture

26 June 2008
It’s tough to find solid wooden children's bedroom furniture that will survive not one, but two, three or four children! Our range of bunk beds, single beds, toddler beds and mid sleeper beds are high quality and are built to withstand years of pillow fights! With quality child size mattresses, wardrobes, chests, drawers, bed side tables and much more to complete the package.

Selecting Nursery Furniture that will lastSelect innovative pieces of furniture that can adapt to suit your growing child. Select dressers and chests of drawers that have a detachable changing unit. This will mean that as your child grows the baby changer can be converted into a child’s chest of drawers!

Cot-beds are a fantastic choice too- when your baby is ready to move from cot to bed you can remove the sides, attach the supplied foot rest and hey presto you have a great toddler bed.

Instead of forking out on wardrobes for the nursery select clothes rails. They are the right height for a toddler and will not over-power small rooms.

Junior Bed

How do you know when your child is ready for a toddler bed?

This is a tough question and there isn't no one right answer that fits every child. I have a friend whose daughter stayed in the crib until she was 3. In all that time she never once tried to get out of her crib. Her brother was a climber and he was only in a crib for around 18 months. If your child is a climber, you need to be aware of signs that he is able to scale things taller than himself. If he can do this, he just may be able to get out of his crib. For us it was when Ethan climbed out of his crib at 13 months old. It was frightening catching him straddling the side of the crib. There was no telling if he would have been able to safely descend the other side of that crib. That night we took down his crib and replaced it with a toddler bed. The good thing about the toddler bed is that it is close to the floor, has sides and provides some of the same comfort that the crib provided.

There are important things to remember when transitioning your child from a crib to a toddler bed.
  • Make your toddler's room a safe place. You never had to worry when you put your child in the crib. You knew exactly where he was at all times. Once he has moved to a toddler bed, all bets are off. There is nothing holding your toddler in now and if he decides to get up in the middle of the night and wander around, you need to be ready. If you sleep on the second floor, be sure to have a safety gate at the top of your stairs.

  • Show your toddler how to get into and out of his bed. This may seem like stating the obvious, but this is something brand new for your toddler. Up until now, you have put him in his crib. Now it's his responsibility to get into bed and to know how to safely get out of bed. By going through it a few times, you help your toddler learn how to be safe in his bed.

  • Remember that this is a big deal to your child. Your toddler might be frightened with his new freedom. You may have to take extra time to calm your toddlers fears.

Single Bed

Create a beautiful children's bedroom that will withstand years of rough and tumble at the hands of your little ones. Designed with practicality, style and function in mind, these single beds are the standard choice for most homes. If you want to go straight from cot to single bed then here are a few tips to help.

Don't push your child too much to convert to their new big bed, let them make the decision that they are ready. Encourage them by letting them choose their new bed and bedding.
